The Junior Golf Series

The JGS Code of Conduct

Parent, Player, Caddie & Spectator Code of Conduct

The Junior Golf Series is committed to providing a fair, respectful, safe, and professional tournament environment for all junior golfers, parents, caddies, spectators, officials, volunteers, staff, and host venues.

Junior golf is not only about scores and trophies. It is about sportsmanship, discipline, honesty, respect, and learning how to compete the right way. All participants connected to The JGS are expected to represent themselves, their families, their academies, and junior golf with proper conduct at all times.

By participating in any The JGS event, all players, parents, caddies, and spectators agree to follow this Code of Conduct.

1. General Conduct

All players, parents, caddies, and spectators must:

  • Show respect toward players, parents, caddies, officials, volunteers, staff, and golf course personnel.
  • Follow all tournament rules, local rules, pace-of-play policies, and instructions from tournament officials.
  • Maintain proper behavior on and off the golf course during the event.
  • Avoid any action that may disturb, distract, intimidate, or negatively affect another player.
  • Respect the host golf course, its property, facilities, staff, and other guests.
  • Promote a positive and professional image of junior golf.

2. Player Conduct

Players are expected to compete with honesty, integrity, and respect.

Players must:

  • Follow the Rules of Golf and all tournament policies.
  • Keep accurate scores and protect the field.
  • Respect fellow competitors, markers, officials, volunteers, and staff.
  • Play at a proper pace and be ready when it is their turn.
  • Accept rulings and decisions from officials in a respectful manner.
  • Avoid throwing clubs, damaging property, using offensive language, or displaying poor sportsmanship.
  • Refrain from cheating, attempting to gain unfair advantage, or encouraging others to do so.

Players are responsible for their own conduct and may also be affected by the conduct of their parents, caddies, or spectators.

3. Parent, Caddie & Spectator Conduct

Parents, caddies, and spectators play an important role in supporting junior golfers. However, support must be given in a respectful and appropriate manner.

Parents, caddies, and spectators must:

  • Respect all players, not only their own child.
  • Avoid interfering with play, scoring, rulings, or tournament operations.
  • Follow spectator and caddie policies set by The JGS.
  • Stay in permitted areas and follow instructions from officials and staff.
  • Avoid coaching, advice, or communication that is not allowed under tournament rules.
  • Never intimidate, pressure, criticize, or distract any player.
  • Never argue with officials, volunteers, staff, other parents, or golf course personnel.
  • Never use abusive, disrespectful, or inappropriate language.
  • Respect the decision-making authority of the Tournament Committee.

Parents are expected to be role models. Poor behavior from adults will be taken seriously because it directly affects the junior golf environment.

4. Prohibited Conduct

The following behavior may result in disciplinary action:

  • Verbal abuse, disrespectful language, threats, or intimidation.
  • Harassment of players, parents, officials, volunteers, staff, or golf course personnel.
  • Interference with another player’s round.
  • Arguing aggressively with officials or refusing to follow instructions.
  • Cheating, encouraging cheating, or assisting in any unfair advantage.
  • Improper advice or unauthorized coaching during play.
  • Club throwing, damage to property, or abuse of golf course facilities.
  • Repeated pace-of-play problems or refusal to follow pace instructions.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct before, during, or after the round.
  • Inappropriate social media posts related to players, parents, officials, staff, the tournament, or host venue.
  • Any conduct considered harmful to the image, safety, fairness, or integrity of The JGS.

5. Conduct Report & Review Process

The JGS may receive conduct reports from players, parents, caddies, spectators, officials, volunteers, staff, or host golf course personnel.

All reports will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee. A report alone does not automatically result in disciplinary action. The Committee may review witness statements, staff observations, video/photo evidence, scorecards, official reports, and any other relevant information.

If a complaint is verified, The JGS may issue disciplinary action based on the seriousness of the incident and the person’s previous conduct record.

If two verified complaints from two different individuals are filed against the same parent, caddie, spectator, or player, the person involved may be required to meet with the Tournament Committee and complete a reinstatement process before being allowed to continue in future The JGS events as a player, caddie, follower, or spectator.

6. Possible Consequences

Depending on the severity of the conduct, The JGS may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Verbal warning.
  • Written warning.
  • Required meeting with the Tournament Committee.
  • Restriction of spectator, follower, or caddie privileges.
  • Removal from the golf course or tournament venue.
  • Player penalty, when applicable under tournament rules.
  • Player disqualification, when applicable.
  • Suspension from one or more The JGS events.
  • Probation for future tournaments.
  • Denial of future tournament entry.
  • Referral to the host venue or relevant authority, if necessary.

Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal or suspension without prior warning.

7. Reinstatement Process

A parent, caddie, spectator, or player who has been suspended or restricted may be required to complete a reinstatement process before returning to The JGS events.

The reinstatement process may include:

  • A meeting with the Tournament Committee.
  • A written explanation or apology, if appropriate.
  • Signing a Conduct Agreement.
  • Attending a parent/caddie briefing before the next event.
  • Completing a probation period for future tournaments.
  • Final approval from The JGS Committee.

Reinstatement is not automatic. The JGS reserves the right to approve or deny reinstatement based on the situation and the person’s willingness to follow tournament standards.

8. Final Authority

The Tournament Committee has final authority on all conduct matters during The JGS events.

The JGS reserves the right to make decisions necessary to protect the fairness of competition, the safety of players, the reputation of the tournament, the host venue, and the overall development of junior golf.

Participation in The Junior Golf Series is a privilege, not a right. All players, parents, caddies, and spectators are expected to uphold the values of respect, honesty, discipline, and sportsmanship at all times.
